The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a Part-Time Counselor to support the EOPS/Next-up foster youth program for Las Positas College.  Applicants will be expected to provide comprehensive academic, career, transfer, and personal counseling, as well as assist in the recruitment and case management of the college’s Foster Youth students. 

The successful candidate will provide evidence of knowledge and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, and academic diversity within community college populations; the candidate also will show an understanding of how these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Providing counseling to students, which includes the development student educational plans based on certificate, associate degree, transfer, and career goals. Provide holistic academic, career, transfer and personal counseling, and referrals to appropriate resources.
  2. Serve as liaison with local high schools, colleges and universities, student services programs, and other campus departments or community organizations to support enrollment.  Coordinate and implement counseling-related network of support to promote successful academic outcomes for assigned student population.
  3.  Support in-reach and proactive support of students in the EOPS/ and Next-up programs.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work or career development, or the equivalent,

AND

 EOPS counselors hired after October 24, 1987, shall:

  1. Have completed a minimum of nine semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages

OR

  1. Have completed six semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages

AND

In addition, an EOPS counselor hired after October 24, 1987, shall have two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages.

 

Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.

 

Applicants applying under the “Equivalent” provision must provide details that explain at time of application how their academic preparation is the equivalent of the degree listed above.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. One year of community college or higher education counseling experience
  2. Working knowledge of EOPS/Next-up and/or other categorically funded programs
