GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

This librarian will provide reference assistance and information literacy instruction to library patrons and provide library services in coordination with library staff.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides reference assistance and information literacy instruction to library patrons, including students, faculty, staff, and community members utilizing various modalities such as in-person, live chat, email, telephone and zoom.

Assists with enforcing library guidelines throughout shifts

Works with campus safety in maintaining a safe/secure learning environment during shifts
Provides assistance to faculty librarians with tasks or special projects such as cataloging, website updates, editing libguides, weeding, signage/handout creation, displays, collection development, weeding, shifting, or other small projects.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Minimum of a Master's Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited program required within six months after starting position. Recent/upcoming graduates are encouraged to apply.

Experience

Experience in an academic library preferred. Proficient reference skills and information literacy instruction experience desired.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Excellent communication and public service skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff and library patrons. Demonstrated skill with use of current library and educational technologies, and experience with software and hardware used in academic libraries. Must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity and work with diverse students, faculty, staff and community clientele.

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Reference Services Librarian.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a part-time position at 19.5 hours weekly and is compensated at a rate of $20.13 per hour. Schedule may include evening and weekend hours and travel to campus centers. Transportation is required.
