GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Human Resource Development (HRD) is a dynamic and vital workforce development program that promotes community and economic development by providing educational programs to help those who are unemployed, underemployed, or seeking career advancement to obtain employment in line with their skills and talents, succeed in their work, and advance their careers. This position is to provide comprehensive employability training programs to the unemployed, underemployed, and at-risk youth populations at any SCC campus, as well as any off-site locations, including the Albemarle Correctional Institute. The position is responsible for teaching HRD classes, preparing lesson plans, and completing, maintaining, and submitting all necessary paperwork for each class in a timely manner.
 

Instructors may teach classes on the following topics: job seeking and keeping skills, assessment of an individual’s assets and limitations; development of a positive self-concept; communication skills; problem-solving skills; computer literacy; economic literacy; career exploration; goal setting and career planning; occupation-specific entry-level skill awareness and development; and training success strategies including note-taking, test-taking strategies, reducing text anxiety, and preparing for exams and placement tests.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree
 

Preferred:
  • One year teaching experience at the secondary level
  • One year experience training, recruiting, employment placement, law enforcement or corrections, social work, counseling, computer skills.
  • Gold or Platinum Level NCRC and/or experience in Key train, WIN, and/or Work keys.
  • One year experience with non-traditional instructional methods and incorporating various forms of information technology in the classroom.
  • One year experience imbedding instructional technology into the curriculum.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  • Must possess and continuously maintain a current driver’s license and travel to offsite locations as the job demands require.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse populations.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to motivate students, build their self-esteem, help students recognize their strengths and weaknesses and improve their workplace skills.
  • Be a positive, professional role model for students and colleagues.

 

OTHER DUTIES

 

  • Prepares and teaches assigned classes in a multi-campus environment.
  • Prepares lesson plans, course overviews and course syllabi.
  • Selects appropriate learning materials for assigned classes.
  • Prepares attendance reports and adheres to attendance policies.
  • Submits class registrations and end of class attendance sheets within the prescribed time period.
  • Implements instructor/course evaluations.
  • Provides students with a course outline during the initial class, which lists measurable objectives and expected outcomes, and follows the designated outline format of the college.
  • Reports any class changes, cancellations, concerns, or problems to direct supervisor immediately.
  • Notifies supervisor of any class changes or cancellations and post course-change sign on classroom door before leaving classroom
  • Fulfills contractual agreement including holding class the required hours at the appointed times.
  • Participates in professional development activities provided by Stanly Community College as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
